Hungarian chicken paprikash is a classic Hungarian dish made with chicken, onions, bell peppers, and lots of paprika. Here's a simple recipe to make it:
Ingredients:
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 red bell peppers, chopped
- 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a large pot or Dutch oven on medium-high heat.
2. Add the chicken pieces and brown them on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
3. In the same pot, add the onions and bell peppers and sauté until they're softened, about 5 minutes.
4. Add the paprika and stir until it coats the vegetables, about 1 minute.
5. Add the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
6. Return the chicken pieces to the pot and reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a lid and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
7. Remove the chicken pieces from the pot again and set aside.
8. Add the sour cream to the pot and stir until it's fully incorporated. Make sure the heat is on low or the sauce will curdle.
9. Add salt and pepper to taste.
10. Return the chicken pieces to the pot and stir to coat with the sauce.
11. Serve hot with dumplings, mashed potatoes, or rice. Enjoy!
